Poor New Jersey. Slighted again. Overshadowed it seems by the skyscrapers of New York City. The Super Bowl's being played in New Jersey. But many people coming for the big game think they're going to New York. And all the fun and games are concentrated in Times Square. Lots of Garden Staters I interviewed for 1010 WINS aren't happy about that. But one guy from Jersey said, heck, it gives him another excuse to come to the city and party.

He was on Super Bowl Boulevard at Times Square for the ceremony handing off of the host states from New York and New Jersey to Arizona. But NJ Gov. Chris Christie, a potential GOP candidate for president, looking a tad uncomfortable and declining to answer reporter's questions; getting a smattering of boos and applause over the Bridgegate scandal. Many of the people in attendance not from New York and New Jersey. An indication that the scandal may be resonating with at least some voters across nation. I interviewed some of the football fans for 1010 WINS. Some said, there's a lot of innuendo but no proof that he knew about the George Washington Bridge lane closures. Others saying, they once supported Christie. But now, because of the scandal - no more.

New York Mayor Bill de Blasio learned his lesson very early into his term when the snow came down and people in several areas of the city complained they'd  been ignored. He went out to see what they were talking about and vowed to do better next snow storm. This time, neighbors I interviewed on Staten Island for 1010 WINS who raised a stink after the last snowstorm say they're happy with the snow removal effort. Except, of course, for the fact that the good work by crews means many of their cars have been plowed in!

It may be the mother of all potholes, on the westbound BQE near the Brooklyn Bridge. Dozens of cars pulling off the expressway with flats. Some with bent rims and worse. Ten cars at any given time with flats. Julio from Danny's Tire Service driving up and down the streets adjacent to the expressway calling out "who's next?" By the time I caught up to him for 1010 WINS he'd been at it for "five or six hours" and was still going strong.

To thunderous applause, Attorney General Eric Holder announced at the Human Rights Campaign's New York gala that in a memo he will issue on Monday, he will order the federal government to recognize same sex marriages as equal to traditional marriages in all federal legal matters. That means, for example, same sex spouses won't have to testify against one another in federal court. Many attending I interviewed for 1010 WINS say they hope states that don't recognize same sex marriages will follow the fed's example.

The storm couldn't come at a worse time for florists. The day before Valentine's Day. Their two busiest days of the year. At Ana's Florist and Gifts in Middletown, NJ, the owner tells me in an interview for 1010 WINS the weather is scaring customers off the road. But they've added extra drivers to make deliveries for those disinclined to come out in this weather.

They are everywhere, the potholes of New York. It's so bad that, at the Downtown Tire Service on 10th Avenue in Midtown - and at competitors across the city - there are cabs lined up. Ten or 12 in the line. All day long. Cab drivers say the potholes are so omnipresent they can't avoid them. Repairs cost money. So does the time of the road getting them done, they say.

Sometimes shootings of civilians puts neighborhoods on edge. But as people gathered at the corner of Brooklyn Ave. and Bergen St. in Brooklyn's Crown Heights to find out why the street was filed with cops and reporters, and as word spread over what happened, many commented that the cops used restraint. Restraint that may be the reason a woman in her 30s is still alive. Police say the woman - emotionally disturbed - lunged at two officers from the 77th Precinct with a 15 inch knife. But that only one of the officers fired. And only once. Striking her in the torso. She was rushed to Kings County Hospital in stable condition.

Many of the people in Manhattan's Ukrainian Village are concerned about fast breaking events in their homeland. What better place to find out their thought than by breaking bread and having a bowl of borscht at the Ukrainian Kitchen on E. 7th Street in the East Village, where there are some who are hopeful for a peaceful, diplomatic solution. But others that are certain that, since the Russian Army is on the move, there will be bloodshed before this is all over. Amadeus Shebinsky is a Ukrainian count.  He says this move by Putin did not spring up overnight. But was three years in the making. And says, unfortunately, the spilling of blood is inevitable.
